Hey all, I just bought a 95 mtx like 2 weeks ago because i just love sho's. I'm 17 and this is my first car and i love it, but i have a problem with it. When i accelerate past half throttle the engine seems to bog down and/or misfire. I thought it was the plugs so i bought some denso spark plugs ($6.00 a peice!) and put them in.They didnt change anything it still has the same problem. If anyone could help me i'd appreciate it and i look forward to seeing what my sho can really do.

anything but Motorcraft spark plugs are improperly gapped.

next, you should replace the spark plug wires when you change the plugs themselves, again using OEM wires.

next, make sure there is no oil or water in the plug wells, as that will fowl out the new plugs right of the bat.

next, follow the instuctions above for checking codes.

Lastly, what is the milage and has it ever had a proper 60k?

thanks for the info. the car has 95,000 miles and im not sure if it has ever had 60k. But i remember reading somewhere that the denso plugs would work right, i tried to get the motorcraft ones but autozone sucks. When i was removing the old plugs 2 of them did have oil on them but i didnt check the well, and if there is oil in there how would i go about removing it? a friend of mine told me i might need new fuel filter but i didnt think that would cause this problem but who knows i could be wrong.

There shouldn't be any oil in there if operating properly. You should check the wells for moisture before you remove any plug if possible. Sediment accumulates at the bottom of the well and moisture running into the hole carries it into the cylinder. Not good. If there is oil in the wells use the search function in this section as it has been discussed at length frequently with part#'s to remedy the situation. Also taking a few bucks and doing the fuel filter is a good idea anyway. Then you'll know how old it is. :)

Mullet,

Best advice around here is to use ONLY the proper Motorcraft plugs unless you know what you are doing and have a special requirement for a different plug. Take the Densos back to AZ for a refund as soon as you get the right plugs installed. AZ doesn't carry the right ones. O'Reillys does, but they may not be located in your part of the country. Otherwise, order them from one of the vendors that helps support this forum. Same with the plug wires. Enough said about that....

First of all..welcome to SHO ownership!
Second..the reason everyone keeps recommending Motorcraft plugs is because the SHO takes somewhat of an odd size. They are about 1/32 (or so) shorter than the ones you installed. This ensures a good seal at the valve cover with the plug wire.
Third..you can regap your plugs...but look at the second item I mentioned.

Might as well replace the wires when you are regapping the plugs.

If that doesn't fix it..let us know!

ok.... first off.... i'm 100% pro motorcraft on the plugs... however.... denso and ngk plugs are made to the ISO standard which the motorcraft plugs are.... and in a time of need i have run ngk plugs in my car flawlessly....... that being said... motorcraft is best plug for the car..hands down...especially for the money

Could be your TPS(thottle posistion sensor). Mine had gone bad and didnt throw a code. And its relatively cheap and easy to change.
