Probably the worst grenading I've seen in a SHO yet...

3.0L from a 95 MTX, trying to do 140mph in 4th on the highway. This is the engine I just pulled out of the grenaded 95 I bought last month. And yes, I guess this is confirmation that the piece I saw sticking out of a valve WAS indeed part of a piston ring...

Cylinder 5 & 6 were GONE, there were 3-4 holes in the oil pan as well. Remarkably, the heads actually look decent, considering.

Took the words right out of my mouth!

Tell us what the bearings look like. Do you think it was out of oil?

Those shots should have at least a PG13 rating. That is a sad, sad sight.

Fred- "All the King's horses and all the Kings men" aren't going to make that run again! May be we should come up with an award for the "most fragged" engine.

not to mention it was like a pinaita... every time it was touched a bunch of "candy" (assorted bits of ground metal) kept falling out.

That looks something like some of the engines we pulled out of our old SS/N car. FE ford, 8500 RPM. A dropped valve made the most mess, but a spun rod bearing was a close second.
Sorry to see that.

Yeah, I can take pics of the bearings if you want later today.

Yes, it looks like he lost the pump (hunch). Pan was full (up to the hole in the pan, anyway), and not all of the bearings looked bad.

Mains: some copper showing, some black dig streaks showing.
Rods: some totally black, flattened with closed-in oil hole and it created "flanges" on one bearing; some showing copper but otherwise looked intact.

Tom: Come on, man - you could fix it, I just know it. A little JB Weld... :)

And the award goes to Paul Maestranzi, not me. I, Keith, & Gary "Mr. Clean Clothes" pulled the 95's engine worked the 91 driveline prep, Randy & Myke did more parts pulling from Jezebel, & Eric came down & played with the engine disassembly (and you should have seen the grin on his face). So now that the curiosity is satisfied, I'll load the parts into what was the back seat of the carcass & reclaim my garage. This week has seen 4 engines in my garage, and the 91's hasn't been pulled & inspected yet. :)

You should put the carcass and all the junk parts out on the street decorated with Christmas lights for the neighbors.

You guys are kidding about 140 in 4th right? I never shift to 5th, it just does not pull hard enough (although it might pull more now with the UDP's, cams and such). 4th is good for nearly 150.
