My 93 ATX has an intermitting CE for several months. The funny thing is that I seem to get that at the same place on roads that I drive on a regular basis. Not always, but usually.

I could never get an O2 code with key on, engine off test so I assumed that it was the O2 sensors. Last month, I tore my 93 down and did several maintenance items including new O2 sensors. I am now getting a TPS code even though the TPS is new as well.

I am still getting these CE lights. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Eric

I use to have a simular thing. Only happend on the colder mornings. About a mile from home. I started letting the car warm up longer and switched back to premium all the time and havent had a problem sense.

Replacing with new parts does not always mean that you have
good parts. Part condition must be verified with testing.
New defective parts are installed every day. Taurus SHO demands
that you have capability to test part performance Yes?

I know when I got my TPS sensor on my old 1993 SHO, the sensor came with instructions for how to calibrate it initially, maybe that is all it needs. I looked all through my garage but I can't find the instruction sheet from it, although it has been 3 years... Anyway maybe if you search the forums you can find out more about the TPS. As far as the O2's, the code your getting may be indicating a faulty injector and not the 02's. This depends on the code you are getting. Try running the cylinder balance test after the Key On Engine Running test by hitting the throttle within 30 seconds after the final KOER codes are sent, and the computer will do the test for you, which takes about two minutes at which point another set of codes will be sent. Code 9 is passing, anything else indicates injector problems or compression issues. Good Luck!

My intermittent CE is because of my spark plug wires arching. Open your hood at night, and see if it's the Electrical Light Parade under there.

Replacing the part will not clear the codes. If the codes are memory codes (after the separator flash), you will have to clear them manually by removing the jumper while the codes are flashing during another KOEO test.

Just what codes are you getting? Please let us know which are hard faults (before the separator flash), and which are memory codes. Maybe then we can give more definitive answers.

The hard code I am getting is 124. I will run through another set of dialogistic test this weekend and see what I come up with and go from there.
Thanks,
Eric

The 124 may indicate that the idle voltage is higher than the low limit of 1.0V. The TPS can be rotated slightly on the two mounting screws to adjust this voltage. There have been some helpful topics on this subject.

Thanks Scott. I already searched and downloaded your write-up on adjusting the TPS and I will see what results I have this weekend.
