I have in front of me a ford OEM clutch kit for the 89. Included are 6 new PP to flywheel bolts, with yellow locktite pre-installed on the threads. The question is should I use blue locktite over the yellow stuff or are they good to go in like this? I assume they are good to go, but i really do NOT want to have clutch problems down the road. What should I do?

thanks

Silas

Id clean the bolts off, and use the blue loctite.

I wouldnt try to mix them. More than likely it would be worse than just using the yellow. shrug

I would also clean them off and apply blue loctite fresh before installing them. Those are some bolts that you do NOT want to come loose.

now im confused! I know the locktite is on there for a reason.

SHO91MTX,
Are you sure about running just the yellow locktite?

Okay, I now have a definitive awnser.
If you have the new PP to flywheel bolts with yellow locktite they are good to go just like that.

Is buying the clutch kit the only way to get the PP bolts? They don't come with the SHONut kit, and Ford Parts Network tells me they are obsolete. Can I just reuse the PP bolts, assuming I douse them in Loctite?

I suppose you could, but you'd also want to get new lock washers. They're available somewhere, most clutch kits come with them.

I just got my stock clutch/PP from Midwest delivered to my house today. it came with the 6 bolts with yellow locktite on them. I went to Ford on Wed, to order a new Quadrant replacement kit for my self adjusting clutch ( I adjust the clutch manually but after a couple of time pressing pedal to floor, it loses it adjustment. must have a stripped gear or pawl) Ford still sells the flywheel/PP bolts. I ordered 6. now I have 12 bolts. I wonder if the Ford bolts come with locktite on them? I pick them up tomorrow.

They should have yellow locktite - my oem ones did.

I may have to get a new quadrant for the 89.
Clutch is in and everything is working smoothly, but there is about 1/2" - 3/4" of slack if you pull up on the pedal

Is manual adjustment complicated? I suppose I can poke around down there tommorow.

anyway its back on the road and running strong! New clutch is super smooth and nice and grippy.

Remember to remove all the packaging grease from the PP and flywheel - brake cleaner should do just fine
