I'd like to power wash the engine on my 92, is this a bad idea? I know there's alot of electronics in this bad boy.

Thanks, Chris

I agree with Tom. Also try a search and see how many people have learned the hard way.

Power wash it only if you are prepared to deal with all of the negative consequences that will likely happen.

Water in plug wells, water in the relay box, and water forced into electrical connectors are all stong likelihoods.

You can...and it will look great! Just dont plan on driving it and/or it running well.

Some people say its ok to use a garden hose to wash it...but power washing is no good.

Take the covers off of your PC and try power washing that and see how it works out. You can expect about the same results doing it to the car! :thumb:

go ahead and power wash that motor on the high setting.

I could use another parts car.

alright, enough fun, guys ;)

alot of people have used running water to clean their engine bays, including myself, with no long term negative impact.

I used a simple garden hose to wash mine down, and still ended up with water in the plug wells. So be carefull.

don't c**k block my parts car!!

I cover my coil pack, alternator and Zex Box with plastic bags.

Spray a decent amount of simple green automotive over the motor. Let sit for a few minutes.

With the hose on a light shower setting rinse motor. I then start the motor a little bit after just to make sure I didn't mess anything up.

In all honesty when i got my 89 back from my sister it was nasty under there and i took it all apart and cleaned it the old fashioned way with a toothbrush and carb cleaner and simple green. It takes quite a while to do this but the end result is nice and i swear it ran better after doing it :p . If you do it this way once and then everytime you wash the car rub it down lightly with a rag you will be fine. Its also a good time to replace all the valve cover gaskets and plug well seals and all that stuff that lets the oil get out and grease everything up. When i got the 89 back from my sis that was teh first thing i did and although its not show quality under there it is very clean. Yes id be willing to eat off of it  Also if you want the black stuff shiny once its clean you can get stuff at autozone called Jet Wet or just basic aeresol engine detailer and spray it down and it will look nice. I dont really like that stuff though cause after one week of daily driving that stuff attracts dust like a magnet.

I just did the garden hose and purple power. I remember someone saying "Man, thats a dirty SHO" in one of my damage pics, too! It sat for over a year abandoned at a gas station...

engine bright works well for stuborn stuff just make sure you shield all your electronics, intake, oil from a direct stream of water. i had a jeep that i ran through all kinds dirt and mud and it leaked oil pretty good to and I just used engine bright and a garden hose, and some plastic grocery bags.
