Had the weirdest thing happen to me today. I have noticed over the last few months a little smoke comming from the passenger side of the car but nothing to be alarmed about. Also the steering gets really hard when turning corners. Today I decided to take a little drive and on the way home noticed a lot of smoke comming from under the hood. I pull in the driveway and pop the hood to see where the smoke was comming from than all the sudden I saw  FIRE!!! It was a very small fire but enough to get my attention rather quickly. I grab the garden hose and drowned the entire engine compartment. After reading the post on here I have detirmined that it must have been P/S fluid that dripped onto the cat which caused it to flare up. Good news is that nothing was damaged. :thumb: I am going to replace the pump as soon as possible but was wondering if these pumps can have the seals replaced cause there not cheap $165.00 local.

While a PS pump or hose leak is a possibility, I'd highly recommend that you first check the rear cam seal or the rear valve cover gasket. Leaks from either of these can make it appear that the PS system is leaking, ie, fluid dripping onto the rear header/cat, etc.

If you can verify the color of the leaking fluid, that will pin the leak to the correct system. PS fluid hould be reddish. On a cold engine, reach your fingertips under the PS pump and see what color the fluid is that comes out from under there.
