I think I may have a similar issue to the gentleman posting about his p/s hose. I haven't checked it yet though..

I was wondering how likely is it for a power steering pump to leak? I lose power steering fluid quite a bit, like empty every couple times I drive it. The guy said when I bought it it leaked like that too, he thought it was the steering rack.... Well I changed that. I also changed the cooler which was leaking pretty bad too.

The hoses have oil on them, and there's a lot of power steering fluid smoking off the exhaust... it looks to me more like it's the p/s pump itself, honestly though I've never seen one leak but this is my first sho and it's obviously different than other cars I've worked on...

okay I ordered one even if it isn't whats causing the problem, how hard is that to change with the motor in? because it looks to me like it's almost impossible! I have to change the tranny soon anyway (when new one arrives) so if anyone has any tips on that I'd sure love to hear it.

It's not a very common issue on these cars but it sure can happen. Ive heard it is difficult to change but it can be done. There are guides to help you, just do a search.

mine did leak alot and i just replaced the p/s pump. also, i had an old hose, the larger of the 2, that went from the p/s reservoir to the pump that leaked alot, changed that and 90% of my leaking went away. i also ran new hose from the cooler to the reservoir and replaced the factory style pressure clamps. i also replaced my high pressure line from the pump to the rack because it was leaking at the rack and i couldnt tighten it anymore.

the pumps can leak at the shaft seal, especially if the pump bearings are worn and the pulley wobbles.
