Power Steering Pump Replacement

Yesterday I was moving the SHO around and noticed that the power steering pump was really whining pretty loudly. I was thinking of doing a flush on it first to see if new fluid would help quiet it down a bit before going the replacement route. It is working fine, it is just very whiny.
So has anyone done a flush or ever replaced their power steering pump and if so, any direction/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks y'all.

It seems like once one gets air in the system, you practically need to set the car on its side to get the bubbles out of the rack. Just not something our cars do well.

To do a fluid change, take a turkey baster and suck out as much fluid from the reservoir that you can. Refill reservoir, drive car a little bit. Repeat. I have had to do this more than 10 times on problematic cars in the past. Normal is 4 or so and things are looking pretty good.

Oh yeah - usually does not do anything for the whine, at least for a while, but eventually it should shut up.

Hey thanks for the reply, sorry it has been a while since I posted that about the power steering noise and I haven't even had the time to look at it, work always takes up my time and I haven't driven the car since my last post on here.
Question, if I need to replace the pump, is the pump on the V8 the same as on the regular Taurus?

I got lucky!!! Today my son and I were going over some things on the SHO and while it was running I opened the power steering reservoir, thought it was low, so I poured in a bottle of Prestone Power Steering fluid. It was low and I hadn't even paid attention to how low it was, anyway it took the entire bottle, pint I think, and as I filled the reservoir the whining noise totally went away. So, yay, I got lucky with that one. I still think I should replace all the fluid though.

Yes and it is a sealed system so there is a leak somewhere. Just keep checking it frequently for level.

Right, the power steering pump is fine, not making any noise at all anymore, very quiet. This weekend we plan to replace the front wheel bearings and while we have the car up on jack stands I want to inspect the steering rack and lines for any leaks.
