Hello everyone I am new here, but familiar with SHO's. I own a 94 atx SHO with 89k miles. Here is the issue. When I turn the steering wheel it feels like there is WAY too much play in the steering, when I do finally finish the turn before I get it back to straightened the steering wheel will actually kick back, kind of strange I know, but as we all know a rack & pinion is such a pain in the rear, so hopefully you can give me better news. Thank you.

Check:

Pinch joint that connects the lower section of the steering column shaft to the input shaft of the R&P. The clamp bolt sometimes loosens and causes "slop" in the joint.

Inner and outer tie rod joints on both sides.

Ball joints,

Sub-frame bushings worn out, a very common occurrence,

VAPS causing over-assist all the time,

and, finally, a worn out rack with compromised valving causing internal hydraulic leaking or restrictions.
