power steering noise

just got a 91 SHO and the power steering is very noisy. whenever i turn, i hear the noise. i checked the power steering recevoir and it was kind of low. does anyone know about this problem? they say it was common on the 91's. if i steer too much to the left or just steer, i'll see some smoke coming out the engine, any advice would help, this car only has 73K and its a project car, i need it to be in top shape.

I had a similar problem and like you said the power steeing fluid was low. It made an awful screeching noise when you'd turn the wheel too far left. First things first...fill it up! It cured my problem.
