Ok, Here's the deal with my power steering. It's always been a bit sketchy. My dad has told me that the it has gotten a lot more audible in the last two months. It's moaning and groaning but the thing is it does not really get more audible when turning the wheel, But the noise is definently there at idle. Is there any way to decipher weather its the rack or the pump? The car has plenty of power steering fluid and drives perfectly fine but the noise is getting worse. The car of course is a 95 with about 130,00 Miles on it. Any input is appreciated. :thumb:

Have you checked the PS belt condition and tension? Does the PS fluid smell burnt? Have you tried doing a fluid flush? Here is a link to a good writeup that has information about PS flushing at a shop with a flushing machine, and also a procedure you can use if you want to do it yourself. http://endwrench.com/images/pdfs/07FebPowerEW.pdf You can use Dexron ATF, cheap at Walmart, ...no need for special PS fluid.

remove the p.s. belt and see if the noise is still there. If it is, you can rule out the pump.

If the noise is gone when the belt is removed, then its a pump problem
