I have a 95 MTX and when I take a corner anywhere between a 90 to a 45 degree angle in 1st or 2nd gear with about 30% throttle or more, the steering LOCKS UP!
I can pull the wheel HARD out of the turn, but when I do I get a loud clunk in the steering. If I let off the gas or put in the clutch, I regain normal steering. The wierd thing is it won't do it in 3rd-5th, on a slightly milder turn with WOT.

Any thoughts?

100% sure its your subframe bushings , its a known issue. Subframe moves and squeezes up your steering joint. You should also feel it in the floor where your feet are at when you force to turn when its locked up.

Yes, and if you are sitting still, have someone move the wheel quickly back and forth from 10:00 to 2:00.

Get under and have a look at the corners of the subframe....

Get a video of the subframe movement for all to see.

I recommend the Gen III subframe bushings for a street SHO. No more noise transmission than the stock bushings, and infinitely better handling. It truly transforms the car.

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but what's a ALSFB? I don't see any how-to's here on replacing sub-frame bushings... anyone feel like typing??

Is there a specific year? does using these require any custom fabrication, or is it a bolt on? It's somethin I need to do, so any and all info is greatly appreciated!:hail:

You need a hand file or a razor blade to make them fit. Don't worry, it's obvious...

You want to buy 4 upper gen3 mounts and 4 lower gen3 mounts. You will also want 2 subframe hardware kits...

You will need to remove the battery tray, airbox and hope your recall was performed.

Sorry... ALSFB = Aluminum subframe bushings. Many prefer the Gen 3 subframe bushings however. Either one will be an upgrade from stock.

Damn, I think that was everything I needed to know! Sounds like the gen3's are the way to go to keep the ride somewhat smooth. I'll get some pic's on here soon...

:thankyou:
