93 ATX - If I lay on my back under the left headlight and look up.. I have a power steering hose that probably leaked, because someone split it and put in an aluminium tube connecting the 2 hoses.. everytime it gets cold and I start the car, one end of the tubing gets blown off of the metal tube.. and all of the fluid ends up in the driveway. No matter how hard I tighten the clamps.

so.. I see where the hose ends over by the left front tire.. where does the other part of the hose end.. and is this the pressure hose or the return hose.. I am guessing pressure.

too cold to mess with it.. time to replace the entire hose
thanks

Sounds like a pressure hose for sure. Is the fitting used to connect the lines together just a piece of pipe or tube? If so you may want to go try your hardware store and get a barbed hose coupler this may hold it on for a quick fix. Other than that sounds like you would have to replace the line.

The high pressure line goes from the pump to its inlet on the rack. It is behind the engine at the firewall and is almost completely hidden. Huge PITA to replace (ask Scott Patterson (sdpatt)).

The return line exits the rack as a hard (metal) line, then is a rubber line that runs to the PS cooler. The return from the cooler is a rubber line back to the reservoir.

From the sound of it, your PS cooler radiator may be missing.

The return line from the rack to the cooler is available from RockAuto for around $50-$60. The hose from the cooler to the reservoir is available from any auto parts store (bulk item).

If that line is blowing off, I would suspect a blockage between that point and the reservoir. Otherwise, there is not that much pressure in that portion of the line.

thanks for all of the input..

This ONLY happens when it is below 20 in the morning.. I suspect that the aluminum tube that was inserted between the 2 hose parts is freezing up..

I found the pressure hose for $21.99 from autozone.. online, not in stock. It should be here in 4 days.. meanwhile, I am going to clamp the pipe back on, but this time, put some insulation around the hose and metal.. I looked at the hose couplers at Lowes in the garden section.. they have pretty small tubes.

Ahhh, winter brings out the best in autos.. doesn't it..

Does your tube have raised rings at the end? Or is it just flat? If you have a tubing flaring tool you could put the rings on to keep the hose from slipping off. Check for an obstruction, that line should go directly to the reservoir, and there should not be any pressure in that segment.
