Hi folks. I just traded my 93 SHO (150,000 miles, and it was getting in pretty rough shape) for a 98 Gen 3 SHO with 60K. Its power antenna is stuck *up*. When I shut the car off, I can hear the antenna motor running, but the antenna does not move. Is there anything that I might be able to fix without bringing it into the shop?
It gets great reception, and I have no problem with the antenna being up, except the threat of it getting broken off.

Chances are over the years dirt has gotten into the motor and gummed it up. I think all you can do is take the motor apart and clean it or get a new one.

I agree. It is not that difficult to remove the power ant. assembly. I think there are instructions on the v8sho.com site somewhere. I took mine apart last fall. A little cramped in there but an easy job to do. Either the motors or gears are gummed up or maybe the small toothed drive belt attached to the antenna has slipped or been stripped. Take it apart and take a good look around.

I highly recommend using a polishing compound on the antenna if it is sluggish. Alcohol and whatnot wasn’t enough for it, but polishing it up got it working like a charm

I know, resurrecting an old thread

Forgive me if I'm in the wrong forum, but I'm trying to find out how to access the power antenna motor on a 1996 Sable. It's located on the left rear quarter panel but doesn't look that easy to remove from the trunk. Anyone give me the heads up on the removal?

Thanks in advance.

You have to first remove the outer decorative nut then there are two nuts inside. Unhook the electrical connector then it will fall out.

BTW Harbor Freight makes a special tool for removing the outside antenna nuts without scratching them.

or they use to..... 97345-0HXX
