I need to change out my power antenna and was wondering if the genII power antenna will work in my 98. if not I think I'm gonna go with the AutoZone black rubber one. Just checking to see if the genII will work before I buy anything. Mine lost it's life in a car wash and won't to anything but slice the heck out of me when I wash the car now.

I think the GEN 2 one will work.

To go to a fixed mast you also have to get a fixed bse.

mandy i put a rubber black one on my car and it works great, don't waste your time replacing the power one. Just got to pepboys or autozone and get a cheap rubber one. Go to the junk yard and get the fixed base install it and your good to go. The best part is now if you go thru the car wash you don't have to worry about your antenna getting ripped off.

It was my fault it was working great but i went thru the car wash on a really warm day and I hate to use my air, the kids were yelling cuz they were hot so i went to hit the air button and wasnt thinking, hit the radio instead and didnt think about it until i was half way thru that the radio was on and no air. I know I shouldnt even be going thru a car wash that isnt touchless anyway but I had the kids and the like to look at the fish and sharks swimmin at the "Shark Wash". I'll call for prices on a rubber one today. The dealership has my power one for $75 and e-bay has it for about $25 after shipping.

Best deal on the rubber ones is AutoZone for $5.00 Thye JY is where to look for the manual base unless you want a new one.

XF1Z 18A984-AA $12 back in '05.

Take plenty of PB to the boneyard to pull a fixed base... More likely than not the nut that holds everything on is welded in place by corrosion and you'll scratch the **** out of it trying to get it off... Spray it down in and out, then go scavange the minivans for cool stuff until it works in...

So you have a little black stubby piece of rubber on your car, and the other SHO in your yard usually has in it a little not-black stubby... ah, nevermind... :laugh_ti:

ummm I turned the radio off before i went in! YOUR kids were screaming cuz they were hot and I turned on the radio instead of the air, get it right! Besides I like the rubber one better... gets better reception.

mine too!
the '99 SHO's didn't have any options. and the standard fare was the fixed mast.
so i swapped a power antenna from a '97. once i figured out the wiring the install was a breeze.
