I just changed my WaterPump in my 93 ATX, and now I have just cranked it. It began smoking from under the hood. It smells like AntiFreeze, but I don't believe it can be. Everything is sealed up good. I was wondering if it could be powersteering fluid. I had the powersteering reservoir pulled over and upsidedown for most of the procedure. I seemed to have leaked quite a bit of fluid out. I am wondering, has anyone ever spilled PS fluid on the engine? Surely, but what did it smell like when it burned off? I am a bit concerned, if there is a leak somewhere, i have a lot of work to do...thanks for any help...

The SHO's use the same ATF fluid in the PS system that's used in the tranny.

That could be the source, but your best bet is to make sure by putting a clean sheet, piece of cardboard, etc. under the motor overnight to see what is leaking and from where. If it's just residue from the H20 pump or having the PS reservior upside-down, then it'll probably burn off in a few minutes.

It could easily by anti freeze, on two counts. First, when dis-assembled some probably ran down to the cat-converter. Second, the rubber O rings like to fall out of place when the new pump is installed. Time for a pressure test. Don't forget the crossover tube.
