After just completing the upper 60K on my ATX, I have a couple of questions. I still haven't attempted to start it yet, as it needs a battery. When I was bolting back in the EGR Valve onto the intake, I accidentally dropped the bottom bolt, and for the life of me can't find it. I have the top bolt as tight as it can be. Will that cause a problem when attempting to start, or idle irractically? At least until I can source a bolt for it. Also is there a way to remove the top timing cover, without removing the accessory belt (limited on tools)? I wanna at least try to get it started this evening when I get home. Thanks!

Yea I think u can get it off without the belt, but the belt should come off the tensioner pretty easy if u have extentions, and a socket for such a task. And the EGR thing, I would think could cause a problem. The EGR on my truck is moody like my pregnant woman .. but nothing is wrong with it, sometimes it runs like a champ, sometimes I swear it sticks, and acts like i left my parking brake on. Try using a magnetic pickup tool and poke around and see if u come up with anything. I'm sure finding another bolt would be pretty easy from the store tho.

Dunno abou the belt, but I think I have some EGR bolts and bits on my project intake. Since it's going on an MTX, I don't need the EGR bolts and whatnot.

It looks for snug. I can't really see a gap between the gasket and the EGR, but who knows. As for the magnetic pickup tool, I haven't the slightest clue where to begin poking. For some strange reason, I heard it drop, and didn't move to look and see where it was falling until it was too late. As if I was frozen.

Once again, Hamal to the rescue! :thumb: I'll give you a call later on tonight to set something up. Got on the Bus for the first time in a couple of years yesterday, and it wasn't a pretty sight. . . . . :frown:

It is going to be extremely difficult to get the upper timing cover off with the belt still on there.....

Without both bolts holding the EGR in place I would imagine you would have a vacuum leak, which would present a problem.

Good point. Although I wasn't gonna drive it. Just wanted to make sure it'd start, and idle, but that kind of defeats the purpose. I'll hold off until I get the bolt.

Just like I do at work when I drop a screw or something. Freeze, and use your ears. Its almost like a game to me. I've dropped little screws that hold a circuit board in numerous times, only to have it bounce 20 feet away. The EGR is on the backside of the intake if I remember right. I'd just check the hoses and cables near the firewall, on top maybe rolled toward the back. There really isnt any where it could sit on the engine, check on top of the ps pump, on top of the subframe maybe.. Just think like Newton, and imagine where it could have gone, then again, I just found a bolt I lost a year ago.. so I dont really know what I'm talkin about.. LOL!

I found it on one of the wiring harness on the rear of the car, by the firewall. I removed the crossover tube, to get to the timing cover. I rested the two 12mm bolts by the windshield, and one accidentally dropped. I thought it fell towards the PS pump area, and as I turned my head, there was the shiny bolt looking right at me! The 12mm bolt ended falling by the shock tower.
