hey guys.... here's the deal, i found a 98 sho w/75k, second owner. the exterior is just ok. there are a couple of issues though..the front pass. window does not roll down and there are some minor scratches to the exterior. i need some help doing a field test and inspection (ie motor, tranny). can you guys give me some tips on what to ask/look for?? the seller is motivated as he is planning to leave the country in a couple of weeks (seller apears to be straight forward). the negotiated price im offering is 5000. thanks alot guys

Ill share my experience when I bought my 98. Car was beautiful, spotless inside and outside. Check the tranny fluid as the trannies are notorious for going around that mileage. Smell the tranny fluid, if theres any burnt odor thats bad. The fluid should be dark red. Check the oil dipstick, if its thick and black bad.

Mine checked out great. everything looked good. Then when i went to get the cams welded, and the guy pulled the valve cover, everything went to shi&*$.

I guess the previously owner had chnaged the oil maybe twice the whole time he owned the car. Thick black residue over everything. He had to word probably six or seven extra hours just cleaning.

Well long story short, during the cam weld and cleaning, something got dislodged and stuck a valve, so now my car is down awaiting a new head.

Be very cautious is all i can say, check it out closely.

good luck

brian

get the cams welded right away.
