Yes, I'd like to know where to get one for a spare for $12. AFAIK, the best you can do is Advance Auto ordered online for $36.99 list price, then use the 15% off code in the sticky to get it to $31.44, and pick up in store to avoid shipping.

Did you take the crossover tube off of the intake? Makes access to the CID easier and just takes just a few minutes.

Huh. Price must've gone up since I looked at them last. RockAuto has one for $30.99, but I guess that is the cheapest I can find it.

new cam sensor from autozone went in this morning...

took the car for a normal long drive, and made some frequent stops where i turned the car off. (where the problem usually occurred)

thus far the vehicle has started properly on every attempt, not logged and CEL's, nor had the tachometer die.

i'm not trying to jinx myself, but i hope i've nailed the issue.

only one part left to replace if it fails again...the crank sensor. :(

i couldn't massage the piece off...it was requiring too much effort/time so i just reached around it.

is there some secret to getting that sucker off that i'm not aware of?

i didn't want to crack the boots by forcing a screwdriver under them...

Loosen the clamps and push up/down on the tube. Perhaps some PB blaster might help, but make sure you wipe it all out before reassembly. It will come out, and if you crack the boot you can always repair with a thin layer of black or gray RTV.

I'm glad you figured out the problem. If it does end up needing a crank sensor I might be able to drive up there and help you.

just an update...if anyone cares.

i have driven the car the last three days as normal, with no problems at all.

the car has not stalled, and has started right up every time i have gotten in to drive.

i hope i'm not jinxing myself, but it looks like replacing that cam sensor was the ticket. thanks to all that helped, and the good advice.
