My 95 SHO MTX will ping slightly at part throttle application in the lower rpm range. The car has 100,000 miles on it and I always use 91+ octane gas in it. Could the knock sensor be bad? If so where is it and is it easy to change. Could it be something else. I only notice this at light throttle and lower rpms, like 2000-3000, then I can't hear it anymore. The cars runs fine otherwise.

It's possible it is the knock sensor. It is located under the intake and under the fuel rails. A little work but not too difficult to reach.

Yeah, I'd have to agree the the sensor is not working. Normally, it will 'hear' the knock before you ever do and will adjust the timing so it goes away.

Try running the KOER test and see if you get the knock sensor code.

If you are only hearing a short burst of pinging as you dip into the throttle, the sensor is most likely working as designed. If you hear a continuous rattle of pinging, the sensor will most likely need to be replaced. You can run the KOER test to do a monitored check of the sensor's output. If you have an LPM installed, it may be overriding the knock sensor's capability.

With the engine running tap with a hammer on the block. The motor should slow down due to ******** timing if the knock sensor is working.
