Sorry, thought my other post did not make it...

At any rate - i will try going after the first click at the station.

I am filling up every 5 days with this thing - however, i am only putting in 43 - 45 litres.

G3 Taurus tank is 16 gallons (60.5L). If you have the larger 18 gallon (68.1L) tank you have a hole in it and it is under recall.

SAFETY RECALL

June, 1998

To:
All Ford and L M Dealers

Subject:
Safety Recall 98S10 - Incorrect Fuel Tank

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Certain 1996 Model Year Taurus and Sable Vehicles Serviced From August 1, 1997 Through December 31, 1997 For Stall On Decel Condition With Technical Service Bulletin Article # 97-17-9.

Though of course, our SHOs have neither. ;)

My car is originally from Ontario, so it would have a big fuel tank as well?

It's relatively simple to tell what tank you have. If you have the larger 18 gallon tank the there is a hole about 1" in the top of it. This is where the second emission vent well would go and is what the recall is about. The only Taurus to be equipped with the dual emission vent well is the FFV ones.

Now this is not saying that you can't put more than 16 gallons in your tank. This depends more on the gas station pumps and the speed the fuel is delivered.

Here's a picture that shows the difference in the tanks. Item 4 in the bottom picture is the extra vent well.

Cool. So, if you have a powerful pump or a fast one, 16 gallons can be 20 gallons! I just love physics. Next up, perpetual motion so you do not have to fill the tank at all! Take that, 4 buck a gallon gas! ;)

If the pumps dispense the very gas slowly then you can fill the expansion area. I've put over 20 gallons in mine once.

16. Nobody has an 18 gallon tank on a G3 Taurus SHO. I don't care what they tell you.

I saw a guy fill his tank up so much it was running out the charcoal canister under the trunk one time. :)

Haha nice. I have the 16 gallon tank in my 95 but I once was able to fill it with 17.6xx gallons. And I still had a splash of gas left in the tank before I stopped to fill it. I was able to squeeze 105 miles off before the needle even started to move.

The point is if they put in an 18 gallon tank then they need the 18 gallon tank emissions vents and associated hoses. I suppose one could do this but for a measly 2 gallons don't know why.

Agree completely. We are only talking about another 40 miles margin, which is certainly not a lot.

Though mine is getting no miles anywhere at the moment as we just had a late April snow storm that deposited about 4-5 inches here on Vancouver Island, which would be a lot in the middle of winter, let alone in spring, where all of April averages about half an inch. So the SHO will be parked until things melt off in a day or two, as everyone out there is likely totally debriefed on snow and ice driving, what little they ever did know about it anyway, and the roads will be seriously dangerous for a couple of days as it is going below freezing again tonight.

Paul, you have an email.

41908a is a cold start up and about 1/3 of the way to my destination that I take most mornings. Probably only about a mile in that entire excel file.

41908b-41908c are the rest of the way over to the school.

MAF values are almost dead on to what is in the tune. TC still is not locking very much. Spark is low for what I would expect to see.

New tune on the way.

21 mpg with about 80 % city and 20 % 55mph highway. This last tank I made an extreme effort to keep the revs at 2k from stop lights, with a max of 2500. Also made the effort to make sure the TC was locked to drop it down to around 1300 at 35mph. Seems like it worked...

My father got ~ 23 on the 2 hour trip back home.

This weekend I got 21 MPG - it was 90% highway. Fueled up on the way back, I added 5 extra litres after the 1st click at the gas station (when filling up).

Now I 'm at 375 KM with about 1/4 tank left.... I thought it was pretty good.

I've been getting mixed numbers!

Been keeping track of every fill up since I bought my SHO (only about 6 times).
I've been taking it easy on the acceleration, that may have something to do with it.
Started with about 17 MPG, now I average about 21 MPG.

I did get over 26 MPG once - all highway using cruise.

I can say, I have ben putting more and more gas after the first click. I add extra litres everytime, right now I am at an extra 8 Litres. I'll let everyone know when I totally max out.
