hello guys,
well here today in mass has been quite cold temperatures going around 10*F .. well anyway went to start my sho today around 2 pm.. i noticed that while driving the car it was feeling like something was holding it on the back.. so well anyway the parking brake was released.. so still was drivong hard.. after i noticed a burn metal smell coming from the rear left wheel.. i got out and what to see :bonk: the rotor was red burning and smoke was coming out of it.. i went inside the car again and put in the mergency brake to see what was wrong so i could release it again, but the pedal was soft and teh emergency brake wouldnt work, still though the car would not drive more than 35 miles an hour cause the rear left wheel is locking really bad on me .. would this be a locked up caliper due to freezing temepratures..?? or is it beacsue the e-brake cable still stuck on postion ( but if it was on both rear wheels would lock up not only one).. please guys what do you think this might be.. am i going to need a rear brake job done now  ?? rear rotors, pads and calipers??? ..
any info appreciated.. thanks

either one of two things happened...1)the ebrake cable got stuck and locked your wheel or 2)(what i think really happened)is that your rear brake hose may have collapsed inside and thus locking your rear caliper...it sounds like this stuff has never been touched so in all honesty it lookslike you may be looking at at least 1 rear cable, rear calipers, rotors, and hoses...its not as bad as it sounds so dont hit the panic button yet..i see your in Needham.thats not too far from me..

Or a slider pin boot has cracked and allowed the pin to rust in place - preventing the caliper and pad from relaxing away from the rotor. You'll just have to inspect the brake to determine the cause before you can repair it.

fell in to a burning ring of fire
I went down,down,down
and the flames went higher.
And it burns,burns,burns
the ring of fire
the ring of fire

sorry couldn't resist.

Your caliper is probably toast if it was holding up that much.

funny thing is, i just had that song playing on my computer.. :laugh_ti:

I guess all you can do is tear apart the brake assembly and inspect it.... Make sure its cooled off completely!! :thumb:
