Hi everyone I am new here and I hate my 93 SHO(not really). I have been trying to change out my rear struts and it has been giving me nothering but trouble since the start. madflame madflame I have busted the pinch bolt on the strut. I have tried to drill it out with no success and an I can't get the nut off of the strut stablizer bar on the passenger side up by the fuel filter. I am at a stand still right now cause I can't get the dam struts out. Should I just put it back together and let someone else do it for me. I have search all over this site and I have used what others have suggested but have to have success with any of them. I have use PB blaster. I don't feel comfortable using heat near the strut or the fuel lines. anyone got any suggestions? shrug shrug

Thanks in advance

If your having that much trouble with it you may just want to try and get it to shop. I actually just broke my pinch bolt trying to do the rears also, it's not cool at all.

I think I am going to do that and pay the extra money.

if your stuff hasn't been apart then it will probably break. the strut supoort rod is a pain on the passenger side up by the fuel filter. I went bought new pinch bolts. but still haven't gotten the broken ones out. I am losing hope on this being done by me.....

Drill them out and uses a bolt and nut. If you have to buy a drill bit might as well get a left handed one, which you use with the drill in reverse. With luck and enough PB Blaster the old broken bolt will back out.

Itried drilling from the back side on the drivers side but not enough room for my drill and to get presure on it. I am in the process of take the whole thing out and taking to someone to have them remove the broken bolts.

This simple task has taken a turn for the worse for me. I'm also in the middle of a 3.2 swap in the same car. What a PITA.

I took mine to the shop I work out and had my boss drill them out. I dont see this as something you want to do, it's pretty hard, and if you dont have the right tools it makes even harder. They're out and the new ones have a lot of anti-seize on them. :D

well to give an update. mine is still up on stands and I am ******. I am to apoint where I can't take it to anyone to have it done. I have to many parts off of the car. It would take a tow truck to take it out of my garage. I figured i could get the spindle off but the bolt are will not come out caues of the strut.. I am scare of using heat near the strut since it is fill with gas.

Damn road salt!!!

I too am investigating a rear suspension problem. Am quite sure it's the struts/mounts, but have also found a small hole rotted through the base of the right side strut tower. I'll take ALL of your broken pinch bolts if someone would take my rotted tower for me. :frown:

Hey, couldn't you use a set of EZ-outs to remove the broken bolt? You don't use them with a drill, so you might have enough clearance to do the job. You can get them at most tool or parts stores.
