Well, I just picked up a 95 SHO ATX for the wife. I know the cars needs a fair bit of work to get it up to speed (brakes, inner tie rods, etc), and I have also found the source of the exhaust leak that was reported to me during the inspection. It seems like a piece is missing off the EGR and is blowing out through two holes in the side of it. Does anybody have pictures of the piece that should be here if it is a hose or what? I could not find anything on the net yet in my limited time and thought somebody here may have some nice high res pictures of that area of their car!

Now, just to tackle the brakes (and rotors) and tie rods - hope they are not too hard to do!

Well, on the drivers side near the back of the engine, there is a piece of metal connected to a tube that looks like it is part of the EGR or next to it. With the engine running, it is blowing out of here through two small holes maybe 4mm in diameter towards the strut. I'm sure something is either supposed to be hooked up to these that has broken off or is missing. If there aren't any pictures that somebody has, I will take a digital shot when I get home tonight and post a picture.

Here are a couple pictures of where the leaks are coming from - is there supposed to be something blocking these off?

Not presonally ever looked at the GEN 2 EGR valve but knowing about them, the 2 holes is on the exhasut manifold side of the valve. It will leak if those holes are open and it is not suppose to.

I have the EGR valve from a '95 auto in my garage. It doesn't have those two holes. My guess is that some one put the wrong EGR valve on yours(from a different car).

If it is possible you might try making a plate that can cover the holes. Is one of those holes threaded? If so you could put a bolt in it that could also hold the plate on.

if there are no lines around that go into it (air tubes,etc..) go to a muffler shop and ask them to weld the holes up or if they have threads try putting a bolt in them. i have an 89 and mine has nothing like that.

I just went out and looked at my 95. Mine doesn't have any holes where yours does. The part number on mine is F3DE-9D475-C2A, I'm not sure if that includes the part with the holes or not. anyway, good luck.

Thanks guys. I will check the number, but it would seem that it has the wrong EGR on it - probably off a normal Taurus or something. Do you think just plugging it off will work - or is there something else that is going on inside this EGR elbow?

Would this also be causing a 176 code.

My '93 has those holes in the side of the EGR. but I had a little plate that was screwed over the hole to cover it up. I don't know why its there, because it isnt hooked up to anything tho. shrug
