Performance mods?

Hey fellow SHO owners. I own a '92 SHO and even before I bought the car I've always been interested in the Gen III's. The only thing really holding me back from getting one is the lack of aftermarket performance mods available for the car. I would like to get a '99 SHO here sometime down the road, but I don't know how interested I would be in a badass 15-second family sedan that you can't get into the low 14's in the 1/4 mile without NOS or a supercharger. I know these are highway cars, but I definetely wouldn't want anything slower than high 13's in the 1/4 if I ended up getting one still.

So if any of you guys have free time could you please post the current engine mods available for the Gen III's? I know the list is NOTHING like the that of the Gen I and II SHO's so I hope I'm not asking too much. And who here has a Gen III running mid 14's or quicker?? Can you list your mods and your fastest 1/4 ET? This will help me decide on my next toy... either a '99 SHO, '93 Cobra, or '92/'93 Typhoon... and NO I'm not a Chevy guy at all... Ford all the way. But you guys gotta admit... the Typhoon is a badass little SUV. It's the S.H.O. of SUV's for crying out loud! haha. Thanks everyone!

Good luck. If you can get to the mid 14s with out NOS you are doing very well.

I have many minor mods but most people poo poo them. My best time is ~14.6. Been awhile though.

The only mods I know of to get it up there would be exhaust, remove 3rd cat, removed res., and bullets for more flow. I'm going with exhaust cut outs if I can get them to work. Next step would be a custom true cold air intake. Then a custom tuned chip. That right there should put you in the low 14's. For better times add a shift kit and upgrade the trans with a LSD and a better TC.

Wow... so it's that hard to get these things in the low 14's? Ford is letting me down! :frown:

I think I'm going to have to end up getting a Typhoon instead, sadly. But I'm still keeping my '92 SHO!

C'mon, Ford is not letting you down. They made the car didn't they. Like you said, it's a family 4 door car. It was made to be faster and handle better than the normal Taurus, not other sports cars. And it's a limited production in all years. There for the aftermarket is not going to make alot for it.

I have answered some of your questions in the Gen 1&2 section.

For what you want and trying to accomplish, go with one of the other choices and quit wasting are time with the same questions over and over. Use the search button here or go to www.V8sho.com and look away.

As for this: "and NO I'm not a Chevy guy at all... Ford all the way" YES you are a chevy guy. And NO your not "Ford all the way" or else you wouldn't even consider the Typhoon. For cryin out loud go with the 93 Cobra for what you want and have all the aftermarket parts you want available to go as fast as you want. I'm sure it has more parts available than the Typhoon and looks even better. As far as handling goes. I know the Gen III in stock trim will out handle both of your other choices with some mods to the suspension.
