Stock offset is 42mm, for all Gens.
A SHO owner on SHOtimes.com has 235/45/17 tires on 17x8" wheels with a 40.5mm offset and no rubbing.

I run 245/45-17 on a 17 x 8.0" wide 40mm offset rims on my '95 MTX with Eibach springs. The inside side wall of the rear tires rub on the strut tubes. I had a set of 2.5mm thick spacers made to solve the problem. Now when there are two people in the back seat, the outside of the rear tires will rub the trim piece at the lower forward part of the wheel well. The fronts are fine, but stick out the fender wells slightly.

If you where to run 235/45-17 tires on these rims or 245/45-17 tires on 7.5" wide 40mm offset rims, there would not be any rubbing issues and you wouldn't need any spacers.

The ideal setup for 245/45-17 tires on 8.0" rims would be a custom set with 42mm offset in the front and 38mm offset in the rear. You really are filling up the fender wells with 245/45-17 on an 8.0" wide rim. With a Gen I, you would need to trim the rear fender lip for sure.

I have 235/45-17's on 17x8" wheels with a 38mm offset on my 95. I can put four people in the car and a trunload of stuff with no rubbing. Now it is extremely close but it doesn't rub. I would say there is a 1/4" or less clearance on the rear strut tubes. The front does stick out a little but it's not too bad.

Deaconblue has it right... 42mm for the front and 38mm for the back would be a perfect fit but then you couldn't rotate your tires without taking them off the rim.

How much is one of those tire changing machines... :) I've always wanted one.

I dont rub at all with people in the back and my full stereo with a 2.5"/1.5" drop and 18"x8" rims with 40mm offset and 235/40/18 tires. It must be damn close in the rear if the 245mm tires will cause rubbing.

So would they still clear the tubes with only a 2.0mm spacer on the back instead of a 2.5 and where did you get the spacer?

Possibly, they would only rub slightly without the spacers and only after they warmed up. Dead cold there was 1-2mm clearance.

I had them made from a couple of old rear dics rotors. I cut the hat off the rotor and had them ground down flat with a blanch grinder (the machine that resurfaces flywheels). That way I knew they were flat and true. I then media blasted them and painted them with VHT 900 F brake paint. They work great, plus they are hub centric.

What rear rotors are you using? There is a lot of difference between factory 10" vented, non vented ,and the 11.6" You could move the offset 2 or 3mm by just changing rotors. Not to mention the rear hubs are different from vented to non vented to compensate for different thickness of the rotor centers. Keep up the good work!

$2500-3000 for a good one. You can get them as cheap as a grand. :D

If you measure the thickness of the hat of the '90-92 10.1" vented, '93-99 10.1" non-vented and '96-99 11.6" vented front rotors, they are about the same. I needed the 2-2.5mm thickness spacers to work with both the stock 10.1" non-vented and the 11.6" front rotor that I am now running on my rear of my '95 MTX.
