With the car off and in 1st gear, slip your foot under the clutch pedal and pull up, then release. Repeat several times. If you hear clicking sounds as you pull upwards the clutch has been adjusted.

I'm talking about after I install the new clutch. Is there a certain procedure for initial adjustment after installation?

BTW, my quadrant doesn't self-adjust, I've always had to adjust the cable manually.

Yikes! How have you done manual adjustment in the past?

The cable tension does all of the necessary adjustment and the automatic quadrant is supposed to keep the cable tight. Lifting up on the pedal (at any time in any gear) will pull the cable taught, assuming the automatic adjuster in the quadrant works.

However you've done it manually in the past should work on a new installation as well.

It's the plastic light blue & crescent shaped adjuster w/ teeth located behind the clutch pedal. It's sometimes easier for me to remove the seat(4-13mm bolts), lay on my back and press up on the bottom of the quadrant w/ a big flat screwdriver while holding up on the pedal. Might be easier the first time w/ someone helping you hold the pedal. You'll hear it click as you push up on the quadrant.

Hope this helps.

About this manual adjusting thing,,, It's a lot easier to push the clutch pedal down, grab the release arm with a big pair of pliers to hold it, then release and pull up on the pedal.

If you are on the road or out of town without tools, the factory lug wrench it just the right length to wedge between the release arm and the radiator support to take tension off the cable. Then just lift up on the pedal. Not the easiest thing to do, but it is possible and will get you home.

Perry,

Every time I've been under the dash (clutch changes, cable changes, etc.) or held a pedal assembly in my hand, as soon as you pull the pedal off tension the quadrant will snap as far as the cable slack will let it go. In other words, it operates just as I said. I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with.

If you've ever had a pedal assembly out of the car, you can push the quadrant around and let it snap full travel if you want just by simulating pulling up on the pedal.

You're right, it was a case of me typing before thinking. I deleted that part of the post. The cable connects to the quadrant, the pawl to the pedal,,correct??
