I'm installing that type of setup right now, and many people have them already with great results. If you have a 94-95 SHO, it's a direct bolt on as long as you have 17" or larger wheels. It's pretty much the best brakes you can have without spending huge amounts of cash.

I'm not positive, but I believe that the kit that midwest SHO sells that fits under the slicers are the brakes that are on a Mustang GT. Its an 11" rotor and a "light duty" PBR caliper. I'm not sure if this is the kit you're refering to though. The other kit is the 13" rotor and heavier duty caliper from the Cobra.

PBR Dual Piston Upgrade for 94/95 SHO

Thanks for the replies! The kit I am thinking of is advertised as fitting under stock slicers and contains 2 dual piston, lightweight aluminum PBR calipers, 1 set of extreme duty racing pads and 2 rotors. Midwest SHO has them for $399.99. Sounds like a pretty good set up.

id be concerned that the GT caliper would not provide the clamping force needed for the 11.6 rotor on a front wheel drive vehicle.

My post was pure speculation. I just saw that mikey had them on the site. I don't see how it could be using the cobra calipers and a modified bracket and Baer rotor and still be cheaper than the 13" kit. The baer 12.5 rotor alone is close to $300 for the set last time I looked. If this kit does use the above parts though, I might be in the market. ;)

PBR Dual Piston Upgrade for 94/95 SHO

I just did the brake uprade on the FreakSHO. I got the 13" cross-drilled/slotted rotors on the front with PBR dual piston calipers; did the 11.6 upgrade with bias plugs on the rear.

I got all the components from Mikey at MidwestSHO; he was awesome to deal with and kept me in the loop with quick responses to any query and any delay. :thumb:

I am running 18" rims; I heard the 13" front upgrade requires at least a 17" rim.

As far as the install goes, in addition to the kit you'll need to do the following mods:
1) Get four (4) 7/16" x 1.5" bolts to mount the calipers to the 94/95 knuckles. (If you already had the knuckles, you may have these bolts on hand.) I pressed in new bearings, as well as new studs.
2) The important thing to remember is the bleeder valve on the PBR calipers must be oriented on the TOP. Don't make the mistake of mounting the calipers upside down.
3) The left PBR will not mate with the stock brake line. You'll have to use a grinder to take off about 1/8" from the edge of the banjo fitting to allow the brake line to seat and not interfere with the caliper.
4) The rear upgrade required a little grinder action as well. The stock knuckle has two small "peaks" where the stock caliper bracket mounts to it; these interfere with the allen head bolts used to mount the caliper extender brackets used to accommodate the 11.6" rotors. Take a little off to allow the allen bolts access.
5) The bias plugs go in the proportioning valve by the left rear strut tower. Take off the pivot arm assembly and remove the metering valves (2) and replace with the bias plugs.

You will be absolutely amazed at the difference in braking performance. Words are inadequate to describe the improvement! :****:

The Cobra brackets use SAE bolts? That's insane, I thought Ford had finally switched over to metric on all their car lines.

You're sure they're not supposed to be M12 class 10.9 like the Taurus ones? The bolt hole in the spindle is sized for a M12 shouldered bolt. A 7/16" bolt is 11mm -- I don't think I'd risk that even with a grade 8 bolt and proper clamping force.

PBR Dual Piston Upgrade for 94/95 SHO

The PBR calipers have two threaded holes to accept the caliper bolts. I had to upgrade the knuckles on the FreakSHO to accommodate the PBR calipers, but I didn't realize the bolts were not in the "kit".

I took the calipers to the hardware store in order to get the correct fit. I tried several combinations SAE and Metric; the best fit were the 7/16" coarse threads. If it were supposed to be a 12mm, I think even I would have noticed that. :D

Believe me, I have driven the Freak hard since the install. The calipers are still on the knuckles, snug as ever.

It's an awesome performance upgrade. Worth every dollar. :****:

My bad, you said "bolts to mount the calipers to the 94/95 knuckles". You meant "bolts to mount the calipers to the brackets".

I was talking about the bolts that mount the brackets to the knuckle.

Actually, no. The PBR calipers mount directly to the 94/95 knuckles. The "bracket" is integral to the knuckle, not separate like on the Gen I and Gen II. :D

I think you got that backwards there.
