Does any one have the description to do the procedure? How much time am I looking at? From the search that I did I understand that I will need a press larger then 2ton.

What is the going rate that other are giving to do the job.

Remove steering knuckle

Take to Auto parts store and have hub and bearing pressed out, and new hub and bearing pressed in

Reinstall steering knuckle

KY,

When I posted that last thread I Was on my was out. Sorry about the brevity. If you need more detailed information just ask.

The auto parts stores charge about $20 per side to press out the old, and press in the new. Bearing and hub should be about $75 for the set. For $40 it is hardly worth buying a press, unless you have a lot of other uses for one.

I have one and it is great when I need it, but it is forever in the way when I do not need it.
Removeing the steering knuckle is not too difficult.

I have access to a 2 ton press will that be enough? If I buy the new hub shouldn't the bearing already be in it?
yes, the bearing should already be on the hub but it still needs to be pressed onto the knuckle. i did a wheel bearing change in my front yard without a press. to get the hub seperated from the bearing, my dad and i used a 3 jaw puller. to pull the bearing from the knuckle, we used a side action, hydraulic rachet, used for electrical box knockouts. to make everything easier to work with, after i got the knuckle off the car, i remounted it to the wheel/tire so the wheel/tire was my workbench.

a press would have been easier, but my dad and i did it after i got off work at 11PM. we finished up about 4AM.

The proper sequence of installation is to press the bearing into the spindle, install locking ring, then pull the hub into the bearing. You don't put the bearing on the hub, then that assembly into the spindle. Dis-assembly is to push the hub out of the bearing, then remove the hidden locking ring, then press the bearing out of the spindle.

PT is correct. I'll add to it the answer to your original question .... No, a 2-ton press will not be enough. I have a 20-ton and was surprised at how much pressure it took to get the hub out of the bearing. Once you get the hub and the snap-ring out, the bearing presses out of the knuckle fairly easy.

the rear wheel bearing is one complete unit Jason. You just bust the nut off with a 36mm socket, and the entire thing comes off, and then you bolt the new one in.

If you were on the PA site, you should already have the part # (512107) for the bearing/hub assy. Rear hub only, front is different.

"Two reqd" means that there are two per automobile (one on each side of the car). There is no difference betweens sides of the car - same bearing.
