My key broke off in the ignition cylinder and I need to buy a new one. I took out the old one but want to make sure I have the exact part number so I can check either Autozone or Ford. If someone can post the exact part number for either or both then that would be great. Does the ignition cylinder include the black piece on the outside of the steering column as well as the inside piece? They came off my car into two separate pieces. The black piece had some cracking around the metal rim.

Lockworks LC14160, $12.99 at AutoZone. A locksmith can re-key the new cylinder to your old key for about $20 if you don't want to have to use 2 different keys.

I went to the locksmith and for $20 I had a new cylinder and they threw in the rekeying for free. Took about 20 minutes.

Thanks very much guys. I did a search earlier and was surprised at how easy of a job it is to remove the old cylinder and install the new one. I picked one up for $12.99 and it starts better than before. I had been wondering what was causing my hard starting problem because the starter, alternator, and battery were all good.

I put up with mine for a year. Had to make sure the key was in the right spot when I took it out or the battery would be drained. Finally went to the locksmith and pulled my old cylinder out right there and put in the new one. Don't know why I put up with the worn out one so long.

My ignition cylinder is jamming. According to the info above, I may be able to just go to a lock smith with my key and he should be able to hook me up with a new one. Has anyone else done this or recommend I do something different? What else does the ignition key work for?
