Hi,

my parking brake release pull is broken; it will pull without any real restraint, and the pedal will not stay engaged. I understand that I need to replace the cable. I'm looking at rockauto.com for the part, but they list many different options. Can anyone help me select the proper cable for a 1995 ATX SHO?

Thanks!

Hmm.

My mechanic told me that he thinks the cable was pulled out too far when my dash was removed, and that the cable needs to be replaced. What does it mean that the pedal assembly is stuck? Is that something that was reinstalled wrong when the dash was put back together? Or is something else broken?

Thanks,

I actually had the problem described. had to replace the release handle because the cable was broken. Removed as described above. i think this part is the same on all taurus, so i would recommend getting one at the jy. I probably have one laying around somewhere.

Thanks!

I just looked at it closer, and it seems that the handle operates properly, but the round plastic "housing" piece pulls with the handle, as if something behind the round plastic piece, and on the other side of the dash, were missing. Is that the purpose of the little metal clip? Maybe that went missing when my mechanic was replacing my blend door actuator?

I don't remember if it was like this beforehand, but when I hold the handle in place and press the parking brake pedal down, it comes back up slightly, but when I (still holding the handle & housing where it's supposed to be) pull the handle, it releases. What I don't know is if it normally would come back up slightly, which would mean there are 2 problems (missing clip? and some other reason the brake doesn't stay all the way down)

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Yes, it's missing the metal clip. Does the parking brake hold and function normally?

I didn't see any pull tab sticking out, so I guess that's the culprit. Can I get one of those at Autozone or is that something more difficult to find?

Thanks!

Yeah, I called a local Ford dealer and they don't have it. I'll have to find a junkyard around here, unless someone from the forums has one or knows of another place.

Thanks!

Received the retainer clip, thanks! That secured the release handle! But the pedal still doesn't engage when I press it. I wonder what that could be...maybe a broken cable somewhere?
