panic button

I hope I'm not the only one to hit the panic button putting or pulling keys out of their pocket. question: is there a way to disable this function without disabling the alarm? if any has please let me know. I think it will work if I pull the cover off the button on the key fob. go or no go?

Never happened to me...but I suppose you could just open up the remote and remove the button.

I wouldn't take the button out, then you would get lint and dirt and stuff in there. Rather, pop it open, and tape/glue over the contact on the rear of the button. That way the key fob would still look fully functional, but just the panic button wouldn't work. thumb

I tried to remove the button myself but it looked stupid and I didn't want to get pocket lint, dust, etc. in the thing.

I think that an easy solution would be to put a dab of hot glue on the button. That way when fumbling around in the dark you don't press it by mistake.

Another option might be to open it up and take an exacto-blade to the trace on the PCB. That might work but I haven't looked at it yet.

I would not disable any functions of the Ford PATS. It is quite vulnerable as is. If you live in a high crime area I would suggest a good anti-theft from DEI Electronics.

The Keyless entry will in no way disable the PATS at all. They PATS module is seperate and only stops you from starting the car with the wrong key.

The other bad thing about the factory "alarm" if you wish to call it that is that the only thing it does is detects if someone opens a door. There is no shock sensor attack so you could knock out a window and it doesn't even know. Knock out the window, climb inside, by-pass the PATS and you're gone.

By-passing the Ford PATS is not that hard either. Even a $40-50 cheap alarm is well ahead of the Ford security.

popped open the remote, it has a clear plastic backing with 5 metal dots that contact circuit board to activate the panic button, trunk release, and door lock/unlock. don't ask me why there were 5, I suppose the same backing is used in remotes with 5 functions along with the 4 on my remote. put a small piece of tape over panic part of circuit board and reassembled. now I can wear my jeans without worrying about the embarrassment of alarm sounding off needlessly. THANKS

Tunez, you are quite right about the Ford PATS. It is worthless. When I found my SHO skeleton in the impound lot there was nothing but a frame with broken glass all over the floor. I got some bad advice three years ago on V8 SHO mailing list that the SHO was hard to steal. Wrong!

Yeah, it is rather easy. I got tired of having to use the fat keys a fixed mine so I don't have to. By-passing it while it is in place is not that hard either with the right tools.

There isn't a car made that can't be stolen. All you need is a flatbed car hauler or a tow truck.

Cell phone quit working on a Sunday. Plug the charger in thinking I just ran down the battery. Get up the next morning no charge. That evening stop by the Verizion store, tech takes it apart, comes over and asks "you carry the phone in your pocket?" Said yup frequently. Said Pocket Lint jammed the charging ports.

Just did this yesterday, works wonders.
