We would need a picture to tell what the issue is.
The smoother the surface of the item, the easier it is to clean / change colour.
Removing paint from anything is difficult, but in theory, can be done.
Need a little more information.

I would look for an auto detailing site and ask around. Most stuff that takes off paint seems like it will damage the original finish. Report back if you find out something.

oh boy. Well it looks good (in a pic anyway) except for the color choice. My experience with the rubbery/vinyl airbag center is that after a long time the material starts to break down a bit. Maybe that was the impetus to start this coloring process, maybe not.

The only thing I can think of is try some of that citrus remover in a small spot and see what happens. You can go to something stronger if you have to but damaging the material is always a possibility. If it works you will still probably have to clean and prep those surfaces and redo them in a stock(ish) color. I would offer you my interior pieces when I am finished with my '94 but they are tan and not gray. You can look for used replacements as an option.

Dan usually has parts cars available and his prices are always very reasonable. I would hit him up and see if the parts are worth replacing vs repair. Highly recommend doing business with him. http://www.shoforum.com/index.php?threads/white-92-silver-95-mtx.122686/

Also try member rubydist http://www.shoforum.com/index.php?threads/huge-sho-garage-sale-denver-during-convention-week.125819/

and there is always ebay for parts

I'd just replace those pieces, you're not going to remove the paint entirely without harming them, IMO. Especially the airbag.

^^^^^^ This.
It will be difficult to remove the paint or dye (probably paint since the steel and plastic parts are the same colour) from those textured surfaces.
If you found a grey that matched, you could respray the steel pieces under the column, or you could switch to black, as your dash has lots of black on it.
I would look into replacing the painted parts, but if that becomes difficult, I would respray them grey or black. The airbag comes out fairly easily, but you have to follow a lot of rules and research it first. Someone will know how to remove those other plastic parts on the passenger side, and the steel parts under the column need no explanation.

your choices are either: replace the parts or repaint the parts.

I can see why you want to change that. You can repaint it; SEM, in spray cans, is the best paint for plastic, and you should be able to find a good color match.
