The inner door panel needs to be removed.
Then there is a clip that needs to be removed.
It's to the front of the keypad.
It will slide off horizontally towards the front of the car.
Then tilt the front of the keypad towards you.
The back of the keypad sandwiches the door skin and will release as you tilit the front.
Don't forget the wire harness connection.

You can program a new code that will not use the 7/8 button if it is barely operable.

This would eliminate needing to replace the unit...;)

i thought in order to program a new code you had to replace the entire keyless entry box in the trunk? am i mistaken?

No, you can change the default code by changing the box in the trunk, but you can also program alternate codes that will work until the battery is disconnected. That way, you can program all your vehicles for the same code...

Every vehicle has a "master code". IRC you must replace the box to change the master code. You can however use the master code to program slave codes. These slave codes can be changed anytime you want with the master.

I have been using a slave code on my 92 for 6 years now. This way I can change it when I switch girlfriends and also ensure i don't wear out certain buttons.

I know it is in the owners manual. It is the same procedure for all fords of that vintage IRC...

I will do a search to see if I can pull it up.

If I remember correctly you type in the master and then you can enter the new code.
