The saga continues..... Took it to the mechanic yesterday, needs wheel bearing and some other small stuff to the tune of $900. It is for sale now. Someday I'll get another.

Did you take it to a regular mechanic or to NESHO?

Also, don't list ti for sale without paying Beth the ad fee.

I don't know how much of a difference a regular mechanic would be as opposed to an SHO mechanic on a wheel bearing?? I haven't listed it yet....

If you know how to get the knuckel out its not too expensive. Just pull the knuckel and take it to a machine shop to have the new bearing pressed in. Thats how i did it.

I know it's not too tough, but after the nightmare this car has been for my family and I it's time to let it go

That seems pretty excessive. A wheel bearing should cost about $30-$50, and $20 for a machine shop to press out, and press in the new bearing (roughly). For both sides, thats $140 at most. What other small stuff does it need?

I paid 80 for one wheel bearing for my 98 SLO and it cost me 110 to get it installed. This was just for one side, I also had them put in a ball joint but, that shouldn't have really added anything to the bill.
Than I had to do it all over again for the other side.
But that still doesn't come anywheres near 900.
And bringing it to a SHO sepcialist might not always brign better results, it will atleast help out the Taurus community. But a SHO specialist should be "atleast" equal to a regular mechanic, if not better than one. If I had a NESHO around me, that's where I would bring my stuff that i can't do myself.

NESHO has access to more parts cheaper than your mechanic. They specialize in the SHO. Also, the cost at NESHO is generally less than a mechanic because again, they specialize in the SHO, so what takes a mechanic who does not know the SHO 2 hours could take the NESHO crew 30 minutes.

Chris,
I just can't do it anymore. You know better than most what's been going on. I bought the car with 139k on it, I have had it a year, it's got 145k on it now, and it's a daily driver. It has been off the road far longer than on. I hate doing it because despite the stress it gives me I love the car, but I can only say "it should be fine after this" to my wife so many times. I'll still visit the forum and if I can get another I will.

i saw the car for sale on craigslist. im sorry you feel you have to sell. it seems like you just got a lemon sho. but with that said after all the work and money you put into dont give up yet. there are plenty of people on here that are willing to help. let us help you. in my experience sho people are the best people out there. give it a chance what do you have to lose?

I had Kirk do my motor swap and was happy with the service, actually I think Chris did the work

you cant say that enough, thats why i am still on this board, i've made so many SHO friends locally due to the extremely helpful nature of the people hear

not many other car communities are like this for some strange reason
