Anyone able to verify original battery that came in a GEN 1? I am thinking it is BXL-34, but all sites say BXT-65 which doesn't fit the battery tray quite right. I have a dead BXL-34, about 2 decades old that fits in the tray perfect.

Well I can tell you that the 34 is the correct group size for the SHO. What I have noticed however is that some batteries don't like to play nice with the battery hold down in the car. Mostly the ones that come with the plastic handle to carry them.
Should be a BXT34. BXL34 is a lower grade battery and wouldn't come in a new car.

Agreed, I've used a dremel to shave the extra plastic off the top for hold down.

I think so especially when you have to select 3.0 motor. I went to the Interstate battery site they asked specifically whether it was an SHO or not and it said group 34 battery.
The correct group size is 34. Any battery made by any company with a 34 will fit. There are only 3 battery companies out there anymore. If it's sold on the west coast it will be made by Johnson Control, and on the east coast it will be Deka or East Penn. The only true independent battery manufacturer out there still is Optima. Moral of the story, don't go by the name on the sticker, get the one with the best price/warranty.
