Opps, I think I broke a subframe bolt thing...

Yep the rear passenger side one won't come out. I was going to town on the bolts with my impact gun so I could drop the tranny for my clutchjob, I got to the last one and it binded up really bad about 1/4 of the way out, made a snap, and now it won't move at all. It's just this one bolt between me and working towards finishing my clutch job. I've read all the threads about the recall kit and I'm positive my car doesn't have it done since it's a Colorado car. So how do I get it out? Dremel the head off the bolt? I'm probably going to order AL SFB's now since I'm gonna be forced to get the recall kit anyway, so I might as well upgrade the bushings eh?

You have to options. Both involve you pulling back the carpet and drilling the holes for the recall kits. First one is just cut the darn bolt off right through the rubber then when you have the hole cut in the floor just simply remove the nut and left over bolt. Second on is to make the 2" hole and get someone to hold a wrench on the bolt as you try and loosen it off. If you broke the tabs off you are going to have a hard time tightening the new bolts because they are lock nuts. You can get someone to hold a wrench on them from the inside as well to tighten them up.

Do the recall kits show where to cut the floorpan or do I just need to kinda guess where I need to cut/drill? I'm going to the dealership in a little while to pick up 2 recall kits, which are coincidentally the last 2 they have on the shelf.

Yes, the kits show you where to drill.

Here are a couple old pics of my passenger side. Don't have any of the drivers side. I can take some if you can't figure out where to drill. Only takes a minute or so to pull the carpet back.

Will,

Thanks! The recall kit only shows where to drill the driver's side hole, so those pics of the passenger side are very helpful.

I not only picked up 2 recall kits from the dealership, but I also bought some aluminum Windstar swaybar endlinks and I just ordered some aluminum subframe bushings from MidwestSHO. :D

Wierd...

I was able to install my AL SFBs without doing the recall (even though I bought the kits)...

I just used a pry bar through one of the holes to hold the nuts in place and torqued those suckers to 95 Ft-LBs ( if I remember correctly... whatever Josh said to do). I haven't had any problems yet (knock on wood).

I had the exact same thing happen when I was doing my ALSFB's on the pass. side front bolt. I hacksawed through the bolt and the rubber bushing (hey I was replacing it anyway) and it popped off. I chose not to drill out but instead there is an access hole (at least on the g3's) where that bolt goes that is just big enough to slide the old cut portion out and intall the new nut. Took a little bit longer to get it out than drilling, but one less hole in the car is always a good thing.

Good luck

The recall kit gives you instructions for both sides.
