I hate to double post this, but think most will understand. The other thread is here.

LOOKING FOR ASSISTANCE - on the road in NC/SC with brake line failure!

I left New England Saturday  with an SHO that I recently bought. After dealing with a number of issues the last two days on the road, one of the two rear brake lines leading to the rear proportioner block failed last night. The car is an MTX, so right now I have down-shifting and the e-brake for stopping when I need to pull-off the interstate for gas.

While interstate travel requires little braking, I am going to have to go through Atlanta and Birmingham today/tonight and know how the traffic is in both cities. Once I'm through there, I'm bascially home free.

But personally, I would prefer to get this repaired if possible. Not being at home and having just picked-up the SHO, I don't have my tools, much less the proper brake line tools for cutting/flaring lines. Given the size of the Atlanta area, I thought someone here might have rear brake lines from a SHO they've parted, that I could pick-up.

And IF ANYONE KNOWS ANY GOOD ROAD TRICKS (ie. *safe* patches) to get home on, please post below. I will be traveling I-85 through North and South Carolina today, then I-20 from Atlanta to Tuscaloosa, late tonight to avoid traffic. There are a number of places where I can stop and check back for replies. Any assistance (or good contacts) would be greatly appreciated. :salute:

Anyone have Mark Nunnally's number they can PM me? The one I have has changed, and he lives not 5 miles from where I'm passing on I-85 later.

Compression fittings, tube cutter, and a length of the proper sized brake line.

It might not be recommended by some, but done correctly it can be a permanent fix. I did mine correctly, and 2 years later, and alot of use, the fittings I have are still intact, and not leaking.

I have a fitting on one side at the rear passenger wheel, and the other is just ahead of the driver's rear wheel, before the bias valve. I'm sure at some point I'll replace them with a new length of hard line (if I ever find one in good enough shape), but so far so good. :)

That would be great if I were at home with all my tools, but....

FPS is off I-20 at exit 5.
Just west off stone mountain. 770-949-7191. Mike

Whoever answered the phone at FPS told me they were north of I-20, at the Kings Island exit (I believe that's exit 44 [see update below]). When I mentioned the Douglasville exit, and was told "no, the King's Island exit...." (even though their address is a Douglasville mailng address) :snicker:

Thanks for the help (number) Mike !!!

Leaving Blacksburg South Carolina, shortly. Should be in the Atlanta "area" in ~2 hours.

Update: HA! HA! Everyone was wrong!!! Stone Mountain is east of Atlanta (5 miles east of I-285). There are TWO exits labeled "Kings Island" exits - 46 and 47. The "Douglasville" exit is further west - exit 37.

Despite the better efforts of several idiots in the Atlanta area :finger:, as well as the Georgia State Highway Department :madflame: once I got west of Atlanta, my SHO and I made it home in one piece.
