So I finally bite the bullet and buy a remanned set of cobra's with brackets. But for some reason, my drivers side bracket... doesn't effing fit! :bonk:

The bolt holes in the bracket are a size too big. I'm thinking maybe someone stripped the original hole, and heli-coiled it? And that when it got turned in as a core, they pulled out the coil, painted it, and sold it to me.

Anyone ever run into a cobra bracket with a different bolt size? My bracket is stamped with k332-085c-4. Bolt I'm trying to usesays F 10.9 on it, and takes a 15mm socket.

I assume if I take the bracket and correct bolt to a repair shop they should be able to have my bracket heli-coiled within minutes right?

I'm trying to drive from South Carolina to St. Louis tomorrow night. Would have had this buttoned up last night but had some wicked bad storms.

This car is driving me friggin crazy.

or maybe it was on a crown vic/maurader that use a 14mm bolt vs 12mm for a taurus. see if a 14mm coarse thread bolt fits the bracket. helicoils use the same threads per inch/mm as the bolt hole they are repairing, so an actual larger bolt in a "helicoiled" hole won't fit as the threads per inch/mm increase when going to a larger size bolt. in other words, if a hole is taped for a helicoil to be put in, no bolts will fit the hole.
the 10.9 number is the bolt hardness, has nothing to do with size.

not necessarily, if its a 14x2.0 hole you cannot put a 12x1.75 helicoil in it.

it is so funny to see what kind of combinations you can come up with to put together to stop a car.

I just did a drum to disc conversion on my dime (S10). It has 88-91 Lincoln calipers, has splash shields from a Ford 8"/9" axle, has astro van brackets for mounting the calipers, and T-Bird brake pads...

P5290714

P5310864

P5310874

P5310858

P5310876

just goes to show you... you don't have to be brand/make specific to get the end results. Parts don't know they are GM or Ford or Audi or whatever..

BTW this is the SummitRacing disc conversion kit that is actually made by SSBC.
