ok, i got my oil changed recently, and my car started to have a stink when it idles inside the car with the vents on, anyway i know it could have a small leak somewhere, but i was wondering if the weight of the oil had something to do with it.....5w 30 has been put in , it is synthetic....i was just curious if people are usiong something heavier without any problems.....post up what type of oil your using with weight please, thanks in advance..

5 w 30 in cars under 100k
10 w 30 in cars over 100k
10 w 40 in cars over 100k and with noisy chain tensioners

also 10 w 40 in the supercharged car.

+1

And I would go with Castrol or Valvoline High Mileage oil in those weights if you are going through a quart every 2K or less miles, whether it's from valve seals or crank seals.

No I would stay with the 5 or 0 w oils if there is no noise at start up.

Remember the first number is for oil temps at 0F and the second is for oil temps at 200F. The lower the better for the first number gas mileage wise. A first number 10w should be used where the ambient temps are above 30F all the time.

If you are burning oil then I would suggest you use some Auto-RX. This will probably stop the oil burning, increase the performance and fuel mileage.

My old sable use to knock a lot.

I used 5W-20.. didn't fix.

Used High Mileage 5W-30 and it fixed it RIGHT AWAY! Awesome stuff. Kinda expensive though.
