I have my oil pan and tranny pan off at the moment and she is parked on a concrete lot. It has been sitting for a couple days now with nothing protecting it from debris.
Well, is there anything i should do to clean out unwanted dirt that might've blown up in there?
Also should i take the spark plugs out and put some (a few drops) oil in the cylinders just to help prevent friction when i start it up?

Well, it has been extremely unintelligent to do that. Is it in dusty conditions? Moisture?

Well, you are going to need to reinstall both the pans, and if I were you. Run it (lightly) for maybe 10-15 miles and then change the oil and the tranny fluid and filter. I don't like the thought of debris getting into my motor at all.

Is the windage tray off? If it's on, not sure if you can see the cylinder bores. If you can see the bores, you could wash them out with wd-40. Also, get a mirror and check on top of the windage tray, then spray it down also. Then do what SHOtimer said. The extra cleaning may not buy you that much, but you never know. I like to be careful on things like that.

yea i can see inside the cylinders with out taking off the windage tray. the new oil pans should be here on the 9th so ill get them on asap!
It has been open like 4 days....ehhh! i know, i have trouble sleeping at night!

If it does screw up my cylinder walls.....all the more reason to go to 3.3L...right?

Is there anything i should spray in there for now to prevent the cancer?

You could spray some wd40 or maybe something slightly heavier into the cylinders, then use a trash bag and duct tape to cover the opening. Just don't knock dirt off the outside of the engine on to the oil pickup, crank, and other intermal parts when you do that.

Again, not sure it's necessary, but I would feel better if I were in that situation. Just think how you'd feel if a big thunderstorm came up right now...

It has another few days like that? Put a trash bag around the openings and tape it up. You are really not doing your motor any favors.

And I have no clue why you would spray WD-40 into the motor, it is covered in oil, and the WD-40 will do nothing except attract more dirt.

Why didn't you leave the old pan on there? Why not put it back up temporarily?

the whole reason i have my oil pan and tranny pan off is b/c i jumped my car (not with cables either) and bottomed out...Hard... My oil pan shattered. It has two holes on the sides, each the size of a softball! I bet there might be small shards of metal from the oil pan still inside.... ill take a pic and show you tomorrow. My tranny pan has about a 1 inch deep dent in the bottom with about a 1/2 inch puncture.

So anyways, I took the oil pan off to see if anything else was damaged inside. Little did i know that finding another oil pan would take longer then a couple days.

I thought about putting it back on, but it is damaged so bad that i dont think it would've fit back in the holes very easy. Not to mention the huge holes in it already.

So yea another mistake to learn from....lol...i aint gonna do that agian!

Is wd 40 penetrating fluid? If it is, wouldnt that be bad to spray in there?

Since you have an ATX, go and buy one of those cheapie pump-up weed spayers. Also buy 4 quarts of ATF and 2 gallons of mineral spirits. Mix the 4 quarts of tranny fluid with the 2 gallons of mineral spirits and put in the sprayer.

Wait until you have the new covers in hand and then place a lot of old newspapers under the car.

Start with the tranny first. Spray at the exposed "guts" from all four sides. Any dust or grit that might have gotten blown in there will be washed out by your spray. Let it drip for a good hour and then put on the new pan and gasket.

On the engine, poke the wand, with the nozzle set to wide spray, into the engine cavity and work from the top down as much as you can. Most of the contamination is going to be very small particles that can be carried by the wind. Don't used compressed air to try and "dust off" the internals, just the weed spayer.

Let the innards drip dry for an hour or two and then with a clean shop rag, wipe clean all the surfaces that will be getting the end seals and the silicone gasket maker, not the inside of the block.

After assembly, fill with tranny fluid, new oil filter, and run at idle for 10-15 minutes, reving it to no more than 1,500 or 2,000 rpms every once in a while to get a wave of oil flowing over the windage tray.

Stop engine and drain oil and put in another new filter.

Don't rev the motor over 2,500 rpms for 5-6 months.

Just kidding on that last one.

Have fun.
