About a week ago I posted a question regarding this topic. I wanted to know if this oil line coming out of my oil pan needs attention since that blue thing is exposed from within the line. Take a look and tell me what you think:

Its not a oil line its you low oil level sender. Looks like the wires are starting to be exposed. Not the bare wires but the protectice cover over the wires.

Just a thought on this topic...I wonder if it is possible to move the oil level sensor up a ways, so it's actually useful. If my oil light ever comes on, I'll shoot myself. :p Now if it came on if the oil were down, say, 3/4 qt. that could be quite helpful.

I'd try FPN for that sender though. Now is the whole wire included?

The oil level light is not as critical as the oil pressure light. I'm sure the engineers put it in a place where if the oil level gets below that point, it's still safe to drive to your nearest gas station to check the oil. Plus, on a running engine, even if it gets below that point, there's still quite a bit of oil flowing through the engine.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm glad it's nothing serious but since I do my oil every 3,000 religiously and check the level every week, my oil level light should never come on in my life unless something terrible happens :(

I wouldn't worry about it until the sensor fails. Then I would just take the bulb out of the instrument panel. Oil and coolant level sensors are for people who never open the hood. IMO

SHOZ123,

Isn't that why they call them "idiot" lights? :D rangerj

LL Cools's problem is a leaking sensor, if I read the information correctly. So he needs to replace the sensor to stop the leak, not because it failed electrically. rangerj
