I changed my oil last week for the first time on my 15 SHO. I changed the filter and put in four qts of 5w-30 and one qt of 10w-30. I have been driving for a week now and checking the oil level after the car sits all night. The oil level is right on the full mark with just five qts of oil. Owners manual say's 6.0 qts. What gives. And yes I am pushing the dip stick all the way down?

The 10W30 messed everything up, time for a new engine!!! J/K!

That is somewhat mysterious, UNLESS, the oil was not completely drained in the first place. Also, I'd check like the manual says: get the engine up to operating temp, shut it down, check 15 minutes later. On a level surface, always.

I let the oil drain for twenty min. and it was not even dripping when I installed the drain plug. The car was up on ramps and the drain plug is facing rearward. The only thing I can think of is that there may be different size oil filters ? I used a Fram TG10575.

Shouldn't be that big a difference, unless you use an oversized filter meant for another application. The Fram you used is an appropriate aftermarket replacement, so I don't think that's it.

Check 15 min after shutdown on a level surface and report back. Hopefully good news :) The full mark is the top of the hatched area on the dipstick ...

Ok SHO, the wife just got back with the ride and I waited 15 and checked the oil hot and now it is a tad overfull? I am sure glad I didn't install that 6th qt. Do you think others are overfilling their engine's ?

I dont think so. But there have been anomalies from time to time, could be the oil pan design, could be a typo in the owners manual. There are other '15 owners here, hope they chime in with their experiences.

why did you use a fram filter ?? the motorcraft fl500s is much better of a filter, and why the 10/ 30 weight ?

the fill mark on the dip stick is the b as pictured, make sure to check both sides of the dip stick you can get where you think you full on one side and really low on the other side. not being a dick but your wiping off the stick and pulling a fresh check ?

I worked for BMW of North America as a Service Manager for ten years so I do know how to check oil level but thanks for the heads up. I looked at a lot of different filters and they all had the same inlet hole diameter so I grabbed a Fram. I used Fram filters in my 1984 Z28 355 on the juice at 6000 rpm without any problems "SO". 10w-30? Well I bought a gal. of Pen 5w-30 and had some 10w-30 laying around so I will use it up. It beats me way my dip sticks reads full at five qts but I do know that five qts will do just fine. Anybody else ?

Well, I finely figured this problem out and this is all on me :( :( . I just could not believe that Ford made a running change on the oil capacity of the 3.5L engine. I knew it must be something that I was doing WRONG! I have been buying oil in gallon containers for years so I dug the Penn container out of the garbage and guess what? Yup, you guessed it, the containers now contain 1.25 gal. or 5.o qts. Sorry about that guy's a real brain fade here, but on the bright side I enjoyed the conversation with you guy's.
