I have tryed to search this but come up with nothing partly because I don't know how to word it. I have a oil leak in the block were the crank shaft lower journals bolts together. It is not in the oil pan but higher in the front of the block. It is were the Cadilac North star leaked. I did one of this on a Cadilac and there is a plate between the upper and lower block with oil feed passages in it to feed the mains and they use sillicon to seal with. The engine is out of the car because I got a deil on another engine and trans.

The question is there a gasket or anything in there? I know it is going to involve the rear and front crank seals and all that. I think tipping the engine up side down, remove the oil pan and then the lower part of the block.

Someone must have done this before. I would appreciate any insight. Thanks

The lower girdle is sealed with silicone only, no gasket. I'd recommend you use the Permatex "Right Stuff" to re-seal it once you've cleaned the two mating surfaces. Make sure you have your hands on a rear main seal before you start this, they're hard to find.
