Well let me describe what I got going on right now.

There an oil leak dripping right off the oil pan and onto the cat, at first I thought it was the oil pan, but after re-sealing it i ruled that out.

So everyone told me it was probably my front main or a cam seal, sense the front 60k was never done on this SHO (90k miles) I figured that was it, did my front 60k, guess what? drip drip drip smokeeeeee

and let me describe the oil leak, its a drip every 3-4 seconds dripping right off of the oil pan onto the cat, and it starts as soon as the car turns on, even at idle.

I know its not the front main or cam seals because I took the timing cover off and watched the car run, its def. coming from behind the front main.

So finally alex (somedude) and I were looking at it and figured it has to be the oil pump gasket, the one thats behind the crankshaft. I got this gasket set from Autozone and im assuming that this is the right gasket

Im going to replace the gasket on Monday because thats when I will have time to do it, but do you guys think that if that gasket is bad, that i could be leaking as much oil as I currently am?

any help is appreciated. :salute:

Whoa, mine's doing the SAME THING!

What's involved in replacing those gaskets? Don't tell me I have to remove the crank pulleys, that's all I ask:frantic::fit:!

Where off the oil pan? My leaks every 3-4 seconds right off the tip of the stud from the block to the pan, it's seeping through the nut. It's a 3.2 with a 3.0 oilpan on it, so I'm going to throw the 3.2 pan back on to see if that solves it.

seeping right off the nut right over the cat, correct.

and yes you need to take the crank pully off along with the timing covers and timing belt, great time to do the front 60k if you havnt done it yet.

so anyone know for sure?

Looks like my SHO is going to have a leak for a while.............

EDIT: Mine leaks at the the back of the motor. Kinda in the corner and leaks from the rear SFB bolt on the pass. side. Maybe it's something else then..............I hope

double check if it leaks from the cam seals again , a scored cam will instantly destroy a new seal , plus some brands of seals are not so good.

Double check your P/S pump and hoses too , might just be that.

Like I said, me and alex ran the car for a bit with no timing covers on, its def not either of the cam seals. And its also def oil, not P/S fluid.

How did you re-seal the oil pan? As in, new rubbers (I said rubbers hehe), cleaned all the old silicone out, etc?

its for sure comming from above the oil pan, but i scraped all the old silicone off, but i reuse my rubbers if there not messed up (ha). I re-sealed the pan a good 3 times with the same exact result each time, leading me to believe that it is def not the pan.

Well, if'n it ain't the oil pan, and it's not the front or cam seals, then I'd say you're on the right track with the oil pump gasket.

Either that or your car needs Red Sox stickers.

The car is already crappy enough, I dont need to drop the value of it even more by putting those stickers on it :snicker:

Yea sounds good, it doesnt look too bad, i think its just those 8 or 9 bolts around the outside, pull it off, peel the old gasket off, put some rtv on, new gasket on, re-assemble.

OK, so to do the oil pump gasket, I need to basically take it apart as if I was doing a front 60K?? I'm wondering just in case that's what it turns out to be for me.

Yes, but I hope it's not your problem since you were just in there not too long ago!

So you hope it is mine? Ive taken the front of that engine apart 3 times in the past 2 weeks and fully put it back together as well. :omgsho:

It's possible. Generally the oil pump gasket will leak on the front side of the engine because that is where the high pressure pump outlet is. It's straightforward to change once you have the front of the engine apart again. I would clean everything, and put some UV tracer dye in the oil (NAPA). Then you should be able to isolate the leak.

I figured it out. It's not oil at all on mine. It's the PS pump. I filled it with PS fluid and it smokes more now.:woo-hoo:

Used PS pump will be here next week.
