i have replaced every seal and gasket but i still have one oil leak, the oil level sending unit. Last time i changed my oil i put a new gasket on it that i got from the ford dealership, But it is leaking where the wire goes in. How do i fix this, i have never took the wire loose, i always screw it out with the wire connected, is there an o-ring in there. Also if i wanted to do away with it and install a plug, does anyone know the thread size? I dont really need it, i never let my oil get over 1/4 of a quart low.

Just cut the wire, and slop some RTV in there.

But, i'm sure a plug would look much better... atleast for you.

If you pulled the old unit and cleaned everything properly before installing a new seal and it still leaks...then...

Pull the unit off again and make sure there are no scratches on the oilpan to sending unit ******. Use a new seal and put a light coating of permatex gasket maker #1 on both flanges(oilpan and sending unit). Let it tack up for a few minutes before reinstalling the sender.

Also, make sure the whole area is clean enough to eat off of and check it after running the engine for a few minutes. If there is no sign of a leak, fill the oil to the top of the hash marks on the dipstick and do a few hard first gear launches. This will slosh the oil towards the sending unit and if it still leaks, may provide you with a pinpoint location....

...Blow some chalk powder on the sending unit area after you've cleaned it thoroughly and let it dry. None of the chalk powder will stick to the area...until it starts to seem past the seal. If you do this a few times, you will see the chalk powder sticking to the spot where the oil is beginning to seep...

Don't run it for more than about a half an hour at a time, between each session, check to see if chalk sticks to the area...

It seems like quite a hassle, but you wanna know where/why it's leaking....right?

I had the same problem. I ended up just buying a new oil level sender from my Ford dealer for about $45. Figured I'd fix it right while they are still available.

when i was at ford we used to repalce alot of them the sending unit would leak thru the sender itself...also the gasket is sort of a poker chip thing with a small o-ring glue to it.if it is leaking from here use locite 518 or ford gasket elimantor both are a anabolic sealer and can se3al upto 50 thousandths warpage...i have had great luck with it i use it on my mtx case halves or anywhere that if matal to metal contact except oilpan (sealer is in small tube and costly so oil pan would take alot of money
