eek! My first leak in the gen.3 ;)
oil is gathering at the bottom of the filter, also it is running all the way to the oil pan. It appears to be originating from above the oil filter. There is a large nut up there, maybe it just needs tightened.?.? Is there a common leak in this area?

looking up even farther, it appears it MAY be coming from the valve cover... hope not, I just had it Kirk'd in January!
How do you fix a leaky oil cooler?

here is a pic.:

Okay, here is the deal. I had the same problem on my SHO back in November. It is comming from the oil cooler...which is where the oil filter screws into. The oring in the cooler where the cooler meets the bracket wears out for some odd reason. The problem gets even more interesting when you cannot buy this unique o ring from ford...only the entire oil cooler which runs $300 +. Paul Nimz has had mixed results trying to get a new oring from another manufacturer but they have leaked after installation. What I have came up with and has worked for me for 7 months and 10,000 miles so far is keep the same oring and put black silicone underneath where the oring sits. This will provide the oring to sit higher and provide adequate factory sealing. Also, I put a thin bead of black silicone all the way around the oil cooler as an added measure.

To remove the oil cooler, you have to take the oil filter off. Then, you will need a 30mm socket. I had trouble finding a socket for this job because you CANNOT use an impact socket as it will not fit up inside the groove to remover the bolt! I special ordered a non impact 30mm 12 point socket from sears. From here on out....it is pretty straight forward. Oh yeah, have a bucket ready to catch the anti-freeze from the oil cooler and the lines. Also, after the oil cooler is off the car, clean up where the cooler meets the bracket and where the oring sits in. Mine was pretty dirty. Good luck!

I ended up using a standard O ring I got in a pack of 5 for a couple of dollars.

The oil can also be leaking from the OP sender or the oil filter adapter to block gasket. It is very hard to see where the leaks come from in this area.

IMHO if the cooler has not been taken apart (my problem) it is not the O ring that is the problem. But there are always exceptions.

I'm not sure I totally understand what EXACTLY is the oil cooler...Look at my pic. above. Oil is leaking down the black hose.
with that said, is this still the probable culprit?

can someone verify... is that the oil cooler... where the black hose with oil on it is running to (where the brass nut is [towards the top])
If not, then according to my picture, is my leak from ANOTHER source other than the oil cooler?

The oil cooler is what the oil filter is screwed onto. The hoses are water lines that run from the block to the cooler then to the water pump.

The line with the oil on it is coming from the block and is above both the cooler and the cooler to block adapter. So the oil is not coming from the cooler.

It may also be leaking from the oil pressure sender that is to the right of the oil filter/cooler when looking at the engine.
