Popped up a plug wire to check the plugs and noticed that there was a bit of oil in all three. Smoked alittle before, but now it really does... is it the valve seals or what... Thanks

If there is blue smoke from the exhaust during a cold start up or during WOT, you probably have bad valve seals. If it smokes constantly, it could still be bad valve seals or possibly something a little more serious... As in piston rings and such. Definitely replace your plug well and valve cover gaskets. And while you have them off, toss on a new set of cam seals. :thumb:

No you only need 3.

Blue smoke on start up is valve seals. Here is a very good write up on how to do it http://www.shophoenixproject.com/stemseals/stemseals.htm

It is fairly advanced as far as SHO repair projects go but if you take your time and are careful, it can be done. If you dont want to do it yourself, you can always pull the heads and take it to a machine shop. I did that and i think i was quote like 1.75 or 2 dollars per valve.

You don't need head gaskets to do the valve stem seals... You don't have to take the heads off. (HG's are only $100 for the pair).

All you did was pull the plug wires off and pull the spark plugs, right????

If so.... you probably just need to replace your valve cover gaskets and plug well seals. The reason it was smoking is becuase when you removed the plugs, all the oil that was down in the plug wells, went straight into the cylinder.

that was for taking the heads off and sending them in... where did you find head gaskets for $100... i was planning on buying an '89 that need a head gasket but the cheapest i found was like $325.

i could send it to a machine shop and get it done, but i'd have to pull the heads. I think I'm just going to try the valve cover gaskets. if it still does it then i'll do the valve seals.

if you can find a machine shop that will do the work, we had to search all of Houston before we found a guy that would even LOOK at them.

i think it's just the spark plug gaskets... because it only smoked when i pulled the plug... so i'm pulling off the valve cover replacing them and the valve cover gaskets... replacing the ps bent and probably the other... then doing plugs and wires... it'll be alot easier :)
