I saw this a couple of weeks ago and purchased from Advance Auto Parts.
Purolator has a new series of filters called the BOSS series. I realize that it is marketing mostly but the major highlights are improved outer casing allowing for higher operating pressure and increased protection from outside elements say that one in ten million piece of road debris that punctures the filter.
I purchased as part of a offer which included the filter with my Mobil One Synthetic oil purchase.
Here is the twist. I forgot to use it. I had purchased a STP filter earlier that week and used that mainly because it was the first one I grabbed when I put the new filter on. I did remember the Mobil One Synthetic though.
So now Purolator has basically three lines of filters basically a good better best and I think the traditional white has been replaced with red. Gold is the middle and the new BOSS series is blue I believe.
I normally like the FRAM Tough Guard series for the non skid coating on the tip which allows a better gripping surface during removal and installation. Had good luck with them in other vehicles bit the new BOSS series might be worth a look.
