I have a choice between replacement MAF's for my 92, which I've suspected to be bad for quite some time now.

It's between either Borg-Warner or Cardone. Which would I have better luck with and why?

And before anyone chimes in with "well, the best is Motorcraft, and everything else just sucks, blah blah blah", please remember that (1) MC isn't on my list of choices right now because (2) the most expensive of the two is $30. Any thing more than that will be spent on a performance MAF when the time comes.

Thanks much. :thumb:

Which one has the better warranty? ;)

Also, have you cross-referenced the factory part number given with either of these MAFs (if available) to ensure that they are calibrated to match the factory MAF transfer function?

$30 Hamal? Wow, not bad. I got my Cardone from Rock for about $90 incl. core, from memory. Still going strong, about a year now.

I know that the BW will have a lifetime warrenty I work at Oreilly auto parts and we sell BW it has been a good brand. Not too sure how it will do on the SHO. But if you get it and it doesnt work you should be able to return it. Most stores will return it if it doesnt look installed. Just tell them it is the wrong one.

They both cross reference (although the BW is using an ancient part number so it took a while to cross reference) to a replacement MAF for the SHO V6. Whether or not they'll match the factory MAF transfer function remains to be seen, I suppose.

While true, you have to understand that my reasoning behind my looking for a new MAF is not so much to find one that works, but to find one that works correctly. :)

Are they really a wearable part tho? Anyone have info how they work? I took electronics, i may be of some help. It appears to be a solid state 'deal' I can't see why it wouldnt work correctly. I could be very wrong tho too. The more i think about it, I would think the electical connector would be an important part too if it reads that sensor as a voltage like most things on this car / ECM. A little corrosion goes a long way, I would assume it would effect driveabitity reasonably quick. Maybe the sample tube needs cleaned out? Cant hurt to fart around with it if you suspect its already messin up. :)

Hardly "solid state". There are two sensor elements (one "hot" wire, and one resistor) that are exposed to incoming air. Very precise, and very delicate. They can be cleaned, but they do wear out.

well.. yea thats the part i was curious of getting corroded. Those would be the only 2 exposed.. :) I wouldnt think a regular resistor would just go out tho just on its own tho. I could be wrong...

For all those that are looking for the site we're talking about... that'd be akin to posting a link for an eBay auction for a mint Gen 2 that I'm winning for $1.

So sorry, no link for j00.

But, I will go on to say that the site that we're finding these parts from is a site that has been mentioned here on SHOForum in the not so distant past. In fact, I found out about it on SHOForum. And I'm sure I'm not the only one shopping there, ergo the post above. :)
